Accordion Book Challenge Day 1

 

It is so awesome being retired. I have time to play along with different art challenges and projects. I signed up for the "5 Accordion Books in 5 Days" over at Vintage Page Designs. I have been itching to make some accordion books and would like to teach these in conjunction with my Zentangle.

The above picture is the book closed.

Second picture is the back of the book. I colored the book with distress inks using the smooshing technique.

The next picture is the inside of the book with the pockets and tags. All black and white elements is washi tape.

The last picture are the tags. All colored with distress inks too.

 We are looking for creations featuring  blue, lime, and yellow.

Party like you mean it

Party like you mean it, that's what I mean. Who's ready for a party? I sure could use one! We were supposed to have a big party for my SIL next week, but Covid put the cabosh on that. Things seem to be getting slightly better here in Pennsylvania, maybe our summer season will start on Memorial Day. Maybe not full on, but kinda.

Anyway, are you ready for another challenge at  Cardz 4 Galz? This will be a fun one. A two color challenge using :

PINK and BLACK

This one goes out to all those classy crafters!

My card uses one of my "go-to" all occasion stamp set- "Simply Celebrate" by Lawn Fawn. The sentiment is from Simon Says Stamp "Birthday Palooza". A little washi tape to jazz it up and this CAS card is complete. You could easily switch the colors on this one to make a black and red card, or black and gold, whatever you want.

Thankful for you

Happy Labor Day all!! The summer is officially over. That means fall is upon us. It means the leaves will change, the air is cooling down, the days are getting shorter, and pumpkin spice everything is available.

 Today is also the reminder week for our sketch challenge at Inky Paws. I think this is an awesome sketch. There is so much you can do with it. I am hoping more of you will play along this week.

I had to use "Thankful Thoughts", "Harvest Tails", and Frames and Flags die set, all from Newton's Nook. I used an actual piece of balsa wood for the base for my fox. Balsa wood is great to die cut, but you have to get a super thin piece.

Crafty girl!

Well its about 95 degrees in my studio, but I have a huge fan blowing on me, so I am good right now and have gotten in some crafting before it gets too terrible. Word has it the heat is suppose to break tomorrow. Hope that is true.

I finished a burthdaycard for my brother and then decided to check out some challenges. Among my new favs is CAS(E) this Sketch. I love theirclean and simple sketches that allow alot of room for creative interpretation. 

This sketch did have me a bit stumped until I saw a tube of washi tape sitting on my desk. The original intent was just to use the washi tape and a sentiment. But that was too barren even for this CAS gal.

I pulled out a new stamp set from Heffy Doodle called "Superdudes"  and Inky Antics has a fun sentiment set called "Crafty Comments", both which work great together. Of course this card was done in shades of green- the most beautiful color in the world!

Love is in the air....

Hi everyone! Have you played along yet at the Inky Paws sketch challenge? Here is a little inspiration to get your mojo humming. 

Valentine's in July?!!? This card just worked its magic and came together. Don't you love it when that happens! I am going to just have to hang on to this card until next February. 

For today's card, I used Newton Dreams of Paris and the sentiment is from Uplifting Wishes. This card shows how you don't always have to get crazy and add all the details like I did last week. Keeping it simple even with a sketch. I only had to color Newton and the rest was easy peasy.

I have been at Bethany Beach Delaware for the past 4 days. I was a bit worried about the weather, but God has been good to me. We have had pool days and beach days intersperced with some thunderstorms.

When this blog posts, I will still have one more day at the beach!

Give thanks for cats!

My friends at Newton's Nook are hosting a fun sketch challenge. Since I have been dropping a bit of cash at my new fav company, I decide to play along.

I started to work on my Thanksgiving cards.mI have at least 30 to make, because I always give each one of my staff a Thabksgiving card to let themknow how much I appreciate them. I needed a fun card that guys might like... so... Newton saves the day. I used the "Autumn Newton" set.

At first I was going with some crazy complicated die cut card and then thought, silly girl, that is so not you- keep it clean, keep it simple!! I pulled out my washi tape which I havent used in a months and the card just came together. The two cats are my Zephry(the gray one- now over the rainbow bridge) and Pinkie (the spunky 18 year old calico). 

I also made the card with kraft.

What are your thoughts? White or kraft? I can't decide.

House of Cards August Challenge- Metallics

Hi everyone! Today is a new challenge at The House of Cards. We are looking at using metallics in our creations. this is kinda a blast from the past for me. 

 

I went through my studio looking for something that would work. I came across this aluminum tape and remembered a long ago technique from Tim Holtz- before he was a household name in the stamping community.  

I don't really have a name for this technique, may be some of you will recognize it and let me know what to call it.

Here is a photo tutorial on how I created this shiny silvery card.

 

 I used a roll of aluminum tape and a piece of cardboard. ( the cardboard backing from a pack of StampinUp paper worked perfect!)

Using this set of dies from Julie Ebersole, I die cut several flowers and leaves. Depending on your die cutting machine you may need an extra shim. I have a Big Shot and still used an extra metallic shim.

Create a pleasing arrangement. Then apply some strips of double sided tape on the card and adhere the die cuts back on the card.

 

Lay the metallic tape over the die cuts on the card stock panel.

Apply a second strip of the tape so the die cuts are completely covered. Yes, I know you are going to say, "Sue T. there is a piece of the die showing." I know, I trimmed that section off to keep the strips of tape to two.

Using your finger go over the tape and press the tape down on the card base, so the image appears.

 

Using a ball tip stylus go back and really define the image.

 

 

Once that is all done I highlighted the flowers and leaves with Copic markers which will dry on the aluminum tape.

 

 

Just think of all the different dies you can use this technique with. I hope when you enter this months challenge at The House of Cards, I will see some of your creations using this old school technique.
