Fifth Monday Challenge at House of Cards

Welcome to the fifth Monday of the month, photo challenge at House of Cards. Any style goes! Of course I am sticking with what I do best, clean and simple.

This photo has all my fav colors greens, blues and yellows. I went rummaging through my not oft used stamps for this StampinUp set- Bright Blossoms. I added some extra flowers from some unknown set and their you have it.

Peas and Carrots

It's the fifth Saturday in the month, you know what that means? Its the WILD CARD challenge at Just Us Girls! Marisa has a good one this week! A tall and skinny card.

I am very verbal that I only ever make A2 cards ( 5 1/2 X 4 1/4). I like my cards to fit the envelope. But  aren't challenges sometimes about confronting your demons? So I bucked up and thought why cant I make think of it as a regular size card just cut down a bit?

I used a new stamp set that I got at the Heirloom Rubber Stamp convention a few weeks back. Sweet and Sassy Stamps always has a great booth and awesome card samples. My girlfriend came across this stamp set and I had to get it too.

I don't often use a lot of pattern papers these days, but the scraps just went so well with the colors of the peas and carrots, that I had to build the card around them. I went with the 3 1/2 x 5 1/2 size so it will fit into an envelope easily.

Abracadabra- it is a twofer!

Well, how about a twofer!! I am all about finding the most uses out of one stamp, die etc. Remember this post from Memory Box? When I received the Cosenza tree border die # 98855, I knew how else I could use it. But first things first.

I made a set of hello cards each color featuring a different season with the cosenza tree border die cut from various MB papers. I die cut cosenza tree border outline # 98864 from brown card stock. I added a matching strip of washi tape and using the new urban alphabet dies to add the hello. Please check out this post to see the cards individually.

NOW FOR THE MAGIC!! ABRACADABRA! Just say the magic words- Memory Box!

Do you see the magic? Do see the twofer? All those left over pieces from the cosenza tree border, minus their trunks made perfect little balloons!! How fun is that!! A subtle sponging of starry nights stencil and this bonus card was complete.

There is relatively new challenge site out the in blog land called The Card Concept, it is similar to the House of Cards that I design for. Since my resolution this year was to try and participate in more challenges, I thought the Card Concept would be a fun one to try!!

The challenge for this week is birthday cards. I am entering this as a CAS card- main focal point lots of white space, very easy to recreate.

The sky's the limit

This is how I still feel!  I passed my exam and I am on my last class. Graduation is in sight! The sky's the limit for me. that is why this week's photo challenge at Just Us Girls was perfect!

I never did embrace the hot air balloon trend, so my simple Paper Smooches kite stamp had to do. i first made this card without the cloud panel and it looked just to plain. The cloud panel some how finished things off and added an anchor to hang the kite from.

Stop by Just Us Girls for more inspiration from my fellow designers and join us by playing along. Remember the sky's the limit!

You are my sunshine!

I am writing this post well ahead of when it will be posted and we are expecting another major snowstorm. I have to laugh, we have had so much snow this winter that when they talk about snow on the weather now, they describe it as "plowable" snow as opposed to just snow.

I am so ready for spring and sunshine. When the challenge for House of Cards this month was using a button, I immediately went for a sun stamp from Darcie's- My Sunshine. I stamped an ombre of oranges and added the buttons. There you have it a very CAS card to encourage spring to come.

Here is the same card made even more CAS and one layer. Which do you like the best?

Now, here is the question. Should you always add a string to the the button? I have been informed by others that buttons should never appear "au natural". What do you think? Ties or no ties?

Please join us for another great challenge at House of Cards!

WOOO HOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

First of all I want to thank the academy- scratch that I mean, I want to thank all of you who have put up with my whining and nonstop chatter about my Psych CLEP test. All the good wishes, thoughts and prayers paid off.

I PASSED!!!!

The test was really really hard and I have been studying like crazy, but there were things on this test I never saw in all my reading. When i finished and the score was computed I had a 71. I wasn't sure if that was passing or not until I went to collect my papers. The proctor told me that not only did I passed, but I passed very well. I had a 71 out of 80!!!!

So this means come May 18th I can add a BSN after my name- Sue Trembeth RN BSN. Sounds great huh?

Thanks again to all of you!

Oldie but Goodie

I am writing this post 2 weeks ahead, because I will sooooooo busy the week of the 10th and the day is posted I will be finally taking my Psych CLEP test. I can't wait till this last huge obstacle is done. The good thing is that the Heirloom Convention is this weekend and I will either be celebrating or crying at the convention!! These conventions get smaller and smaller every year, but it is fun to get together with friends and drive to Allentown Pa. and just hang out.

We have a color challenge today at Just Us Girls hosted by Cheryl. She has given us some of my favorite colors today!

I am traveling down memory lane with the stamp I used today. It is from a now defunct stamp company called Earth Tone Images. The company was owned by my local stamp store, Create An Impression which sadly is also gone. I came across it quite by chance and thought this would be perfect for the challenge today.

This clean and simple card is all about the coloring and colors. It breathes springtime, something we can sooooo use a dose of.

Please join us for this week's color challenge at Just Us Girls, and I challenge you to use an old but well loved stamp hasn't seen ink in such along time.

Great Minds....

I have spent this whole week not thinking about school. Next week I am off and will spend the week studying for my psych test, so I will be keeping a low profile. I spent last Sunday and Monday getting all my blogging obligations in order.

This week at Just Us Girls, Sharyn has a technique challenge- Weathered wood background.

I have to say, I watched the video and remembered a photo I saw on Pinterest and thought yeah, that's it. I am going for a blue background. When I went to put my card in the blog, I noticed 2 of my fellow designers had the same "great idea"!!

This was the original card. I really like it  but it was just to similar to others.

Well, I needed to go back and rethink this whole thing. I made another background with grey tones and die cut circles and played with them until I was happy with the composition. And another guy card was created.  Even Miss Pinkie liked this one. She is a sucker for neutral tones.

Try this fun and easy technique and show us what you created at Just Us Girls this week.

Avery Elle Guest Design Team tryouts

When I was blog surfing, I saw that Avery Elle was having a guest designer search for May. Well I love Avery Elle, so I thought I would give it a shot. I have nothing to lose, right.

I have had these cards in my photo stash and had never posted them. Seems like this is the perfect time, huh? I just loved this hipster-potamous. My niece, who coincidentally is named Avery loves hippos. She's now 10 and has never lost the fascination with them. Purple is her fav color, so naturally she had to receive the purple card for her birthday.

I hope the fact that I supplemented this card with some other stamps won't be held against me.

Wish me luck!!

Love and Luck!

WOOOOOO HOOOOOOOO!!!!!!! World Civ is over. A break from the papers for a while!! Boy, did
this class cut into my stamping time. Now I just have to get through Christian Ethics and my Pysch CLEP test. You all are probably tired of me whining huh? All I can say is, you all are good listeners!

Today at Just Us Girls, Vicki has a sketch for us. Sketches are perfect for me since I take things so literally. I just copy the sketch exactly.  My fav color is green, so St. Patrick's Day is one of my favorite days. All green all day!!! Since I was able to put my Valentine's behind me, I was able to pull out all my shamrocks!!

Please join us at Just Us Girls for this awesome sketch challenge!
